In July 2013, in the opening morning hours of the Timberland Bank, located in the capital of Washington State in downtown Olympia, a man wearing a dark “hoody” sweatshirt wielded a knife, demanding money from the teller as he approached the counter. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the robber, and the robber promptly fled the bank fleeing northbound on Washington Street. The police soon arrived at the Olympia, Washington crime scene but a K9 sweep of the area yielded no leads. The investigation continued, and as bank security cameras had captured a clear picture of the assailant whose face remained in plain view during the bank heist, the photo was posted on the Olympia, Washington official news release website. Within several days the suspect had been identified, and a judge issued a warrant for the Olympia crime suspect. The suspect, whose picture and name had been clearly posted on the public Internet, turned himself in to police a few days later in Mukilteo, Washington, approximately 86 miles north of the scene of the crime, after less than one week as a fugitive. No one was hurt in the incident and the suspect remains in the Thurston County jail on bank robbery and associated charges. (Source: City of Olympia News Releases. July 2013.)
