Massachusetts Home Security Systems
The rate of violent crime in the state of Massachusetts in 2009 was higher than the national average by almost 11%. The property crime rate in Massachusetts, however, is lower than the national average by just over 16%. Though the relatively low property crime rate in Massachusetts is good news, the number of burglaries in Massachusetts went up from 34,514 in 2009 to 37,767 in 2010, according to UCRDataTool.gov, FBI.gov and CityRating.com.*
Nationwide, 87% of home burglaries are considered to be preventable, with 34% of home burglars entering through a home's front door. Though crime rates overall have been dropping steadily, it is estimated that within the next 20 years, three of every four homes in the U.S. will be broken into. Burglary is one of the most prevalent property crimes, but it generally has very low arrest rates. If you lose property in a burglary, your chances of recovering it are slim.
