If you’re a new home security system owner, you may be overly cautious or even a little confused about how things work with your new system. While our home security systems are designed to make security simple and easy, we understand that you might have questions starting out. Here are answers to some of the questions we’re frequently asked regarding arming and disarming your home security system:
How Do I Make Sure My Home Security System Is Ready to Arm?
When the system is ready to arm, you will see a green check mark next to the LCD screen on the device. That green check mark means that all zones are secure and the system is ready to monitor correctly. If the green check mark isn’t on, it means not all zones are properly secured. To see what zones are or aren’t secured, use the scroll buttons on the top left side of your touchpad. So, what does it mean to have an unsecured zone? This typically means that a window or door is open and needs to be shut. Since there are sensors on most entryways, the system would read those open doors or windows as a “breach in the security system” and an alarm would sound. Therefore, make sure that the little green check mark is there to give you the go-ahead before you arm the system.
How Do I Disarm My Home Security System?
As you enter your home, you’ll want to disarm security system immediately so that it doesn’t sound its alarm. You don’t want to trigger the alarm as soon as you walk through a secured door. To disarm your home security system, simply punch in your designated four-digit security code.
What Happens When I Press the Panic or Fire Alarm Buttons on the Touchpad?
These buttons are designed to inform you of a serious threat. In order for the panic and fire alarm buttons to send a signal to your closest monitoring command center, they must be pressed and held for three seconds. There are three security buttons, each with a different purpose and response:
Badge: This button alerts and summons the local police.
Flame: This button alerts and summons the local fire department.
Triangle with Exclamation Point: This button alerts and summons Emergency Service Providers.
